Thrift Store Find: Disneyland Silhouettes

February 7, 2013

Welcome to my new site! I love searching garage sales and thrift stores for Disney finds. Since it’s one of my favorite hobbies (and something Kyle and I can do together), I thought I’d start sharing some of my treasures with my fellow Disney fans. Let’s begin:

Treasure: Disneyland Silhouette
Found it: Deseret Industries (a local SLC thrift shop)
Paid: $1
Value: $20 or more

I picked this silhouette up at a local thrift store. It’s one of the those curious items that you can’t really put a value on. They’ve been doing silhouettes at Disneyland since the park opened and since the price is right for most families, they’ve remained one of the most popular park souvenirs. I love them because they’re a tribute to vintage Disney (this one is from 1977) and they’re so clean and classic. That being said, my mom’s reaction was, “Why would you want a picture of someone else? Won’t people be confused when they see that in your house?” So, I see it as a little piece of art, but it might be a weird Disney collectible for most people.

I scanned the Internet for more silhouettes since I think a little collection would look nice on the wall, but I only found a few on eBay, listed around $25. It’s a repeat listing, which means there might not be much of a market for these. Still, I think they’re a fun bit of Disney history!

Hi Carly! How do you know if your collectibles are really collectibles, or just junk?
